Fostering Creativity in Young Entrepreneurs!

Startup Weekend Youth Edition is specially designed for the next generation’s entrepreneurs, 5th–8th graders. If you’ve participated in a Startup Weekend in the past, this is something different, something special. We will create an atmosphere of exercises and experiences that will inspire creative ideas in young minds and help kids to learn how to move those ideas forward towards action, and in the process, collaborate with their peers.

Today's youth are full of creative ideas for how to make lives and the world a better place. This will be a place for them to take those ideas and move them towards reality. This event will also help build confidence in creating a sharing ideas for those that tend to keep them inward. They will jump in with hands on activities that help them identify a challenge to solve, learn to understand the end customer or user, work effectively with others, and in the end, build something they are proud of.

Here’s how it works

Just like regular Startup Weekends, participants form teams. We will rotate the teams through different activity centers, each focusing on a different facet of ideation and execution. Each activity will emphasize a different aspect of creativity, idea formation, product building, and refining the story into a short presentation. There will be varying ways in which the children will be able to play and explore as well as challenge and express themselves.

Parents are invited to watch and be inspired by the entrepreneurial process at work as they are mentored by some of the best creative and business minds in Seattle. There will be two half-day events; one in the morning and one in an afternoon. Everyone is invited to stay for lunch (which we will provide) as we conduct some lunch-time ice-breaker activities.

Sign up now!

With this event, we are trying something new, so we are limiting participation for each morning and afternoon. By registering at our [Eventbrite page], you can be sure to reserve a place for you and/or your kids at the time you want. First come, first serve. We will need a release and contact information to be provided for each child that allows us to document their experience at the event.

I love all things startup and tech. Grew up in an entrepreneur family, my first job was at 9yrs old and I built my first company at 18yrs old. Also started an importing Belgian chocolate business (giant failure), went back to school for computer science/marketing, worked at F5 Networks and at 6 startups in 3.5 years.

Left tech, started a home inspection service business and we are in our 10th year. Presently managing and creating a startup to leverage technology to drastically reduce the stress in the home purchasing/selling process…

Attended Startup Weekend 2011 where won. Managed Startup Weekend event with 180 attendees in November 2011 and attended the first Startup Weekend Next program. Now enjoying a lifestyle business traveling the world with my wife and two kids (Julien and Navarro).
